Album is terrific. I was not as into Grin as some others & I feel as if not releasing anything for so long definitely saved Coroner from an embarrassing 90s, as Grin was clearly the beginning of doing a groove / alternative metal era if they stayed together. This being received so well here, on RYM & also #2 this year on Metal Storm, is impressive. Bloody good record. At times this made me think of Fiction by Dark Tranquility, the general atmospheric nature, even the vocals, definitely has quite a bit of Melodic Death Metal influence, the digital voice on Consequence definitely made me think of Cynic. The guitar solo on Sacrificial Lamb is absolutely gorgeous, especially when it rises into that uplifting melodic transition supported by the rising riffwork.

Good to see that the band are still at the top of their game after all these years.

Shocked how good this is - like I was with new Testament. Also shocked its a 30 year break since the previous. This band was not big in the 90's and nvr rly chased them up. Will have to peek their early stuff

Secretly glad this dropped back down to 3.9. It's great but on the same level as Grin it is not

Agreed. Very good album, but cannot touch any of their previous albums.

as someone with limited coroner experience and no emotional ties to their previous work, i'd say this very much can touch their previous albums. maybe it doesn't top em, but let's find out after a couple of months

I might put the new songs on the self-titled compilation above Dissonance Theory, if they were like on their own EP

Grin = Mental Vortex > No More Color > Dissonance Theory = Punishment for Decadence > R.I.P.

Think the more straightforward approach on here makes it easier to revisit compared to the rest of their stuff. Also the production has grown on me though I def prefer the more stripped back approach on Grin and Mental Vortex
