If Liars tried to make a Talking Heads album while listening to Captain Beefheart.
This is brilliant - even better than expected, and FAR more experimental than anticipated. I think I may get more repeat plays out of 3D Country simply because it has stronger hooks and grooves - but this is bloody brilliant.

I feel like if Thom Yorke and Joanna Newsom had a child and they taught him how to sing this would be the result and I think that’s why I struggled so much. I love Thom Yorke’s vocals but Joanna Newsom’s are nails on a chalk board, Lois Griffin sounding schlock. And it’s like if you took Thom Yorke’s vocals and stretched them out the way she does. I can’t explain it. I appreciate them now but if it weren’t for a couple “normal” tracks here, I might not have grown into them. It’s possible as the closer was another frequent flier I used to warm up to them and it’s far from “normal,” but ehh. Def can’t really say there’s anyone he definitively sounds like so that’s actually kinda good.
This is definitely more unique than 3D Country. 3D Country is easier to get into I think but the vocals there are a lot like The Strokes and less unique. I do prefer this sound much more now. I got some weird Stockholm syndrome with this album til I wound up obsessed with it, though I kinda was already even before I liked the vocals. It was a weird experience

Like his vocals, but the forced rhymes annoy me sometimes

The percussion and grooves on this thing remind me of some old school rock that I can't quite place, and it's also nothing like old music at all either. I'm still confused but all I know is that it's amazing.

I hadn't even heard Heavy Metal until yesterday. That is also amazing; borderline 4.5 or 5

"He sounds like he’s going for something not too far from Mangum…but his actual voice is very different!"
His voice is a mix of Beck and Jason Molina
