Surprisingly massive continuation of Obsidian, even if a little dragging sometimes.

Agree with @cageofman, this one could've used a little less growl, Nick's cleans are far superior for my taste. But excellent stuff for the coming season anyways.

There is a guest vocalist on Salvation, the guy from Periphery i think? I was reading the credits last night.

I think hes the guy that hits that high note in the mid section of Salvation.

I was hoping it was NH too, but always felt it didnt sound like him.

The more i listen the more I'm so disappointed the bonus tracks aren't legit album tracks. They're both so good.

Man, the consistently high quality of the Paradise Lost releases over the last two decades is absolutely astounding (especially when juxtaposed against the inconsistency of Anathema and My Dying Bride over the same period of time). An absolute killer of a combo to close out the album with ‘deceivers’ and ‘the precipice’. I deeply admire the 3 distinct vocal styles used by Nick, and Gregor’s guitar playing never fails to haunt and enrapture the listener. It’s nice when an LP combining doom, gothic, death, heavy metal and even a bit of folk is this successful and entrancing.

How in the hell do you mistake one of the greatest vocalists of all-time for the shitty guy in Periphery????

Not quite as good as Obsidian for me yet, but it's putting up a damn good challenge thus far. The first half of this album is monstrously good. The second half is pretty damn good as well, but simply pales slightly in comparison. I love the variety on here, Nick is sounding amazing, Gregor has that guitar wailing as good as it ever has and the melody is there to compliment the death-doom crush.

Only nit-picks thus far are I would agree the tracklist could use a bit of a tweak (the pacing is a little off) and the verses of Sirens are a little too mid-tempo Metallica (with better drumming) for my taste, but the rest of the song still bangs.

Obsidian is knocking loudly on the door of a perfect 5 for me.

Both the bonus tracks should’ve been on the official album cut. Especially this stark town. One of my favorites on initial listen through.

Haha I don’t listen to primordial or periphery a great deal. Not familiar enough with eithers voice. I recalled reading the credits but when it came to writing my post I couldn’t remember who it was, recalled was a band which started with P -and a band recently been discussing with some mates. Both Primordial and Periphery had been discussed, so i couldnt remember which one on the credits I saw. Was actually going to write primordial but second guessed myself thinking periphery might have been the more likely of the two? So it wasnt a matter of mistaking one voice for the other. I'm not really familiar with either voices. .

You've got to give it to them - they have been very consistent throughout pretty much their whole career.

Okay I might have jumped the gun on it being better than Obsidian since Obsidian is a 5, but it might be on par. Just blown away by how much these guys can still pull it off every single motherfucking time. Best band ever god damn
