The one thing I haven't connected with as much as on PD is the lyrics and story telling. Just seems a bit abstract and I find myself having to look up fan theories for what some of the songs are about. Doesn't really matter though... there are memorable lyrics here and there that stay with me and the mood and atmosphere is what draws me in.

To be honest, I had never even heard of Ethel Cain until seeing this review so my opinions and ratings on both albums I'm sure will go higher with continued listens. At times there's beautiful ambience and other times there's darker moments that kind of give me Chelsea Wolfe vibes (Ptolemaea for example) which I really dig. I'll need to take a closer look at the lyrics too when I get the chance.

When I first heard PD I was sort of 3.5ing along with it until I finally invested in the lyrics and story. That changed everything.

I really like this but the placement/amount of instrumental tracks kind of fucks me off haha. I'm having Perverts PTSD

Perfect review. This is a wonderful blend of PD and Perverts. I love that the material is still demanding and unwavering in vision. This album showcases how letting songs breathe can make a world of difference when it comes to immersion and creating a vibe.
On a side note, I went to the Seattle show last night. The setlist was obviously heavily skewed towards WT, but very balanced between Ethel's pretty, poppy, and challenging material. The stage set up was really immersive and the lights show kept everyone's attention. There was also that distinctly sinister undercurrent to everything too that kept everyone on edge. Highly recommended.

This sounds really great, might be a bit too slow-core for me but it's nice soundscapes

Ya probably her best thing ever tbh, you should for sure check out Preachers Daughter tho man. It’s not as consistently great as this but there’s a lot to love. I said it earlier but Ptolemea is still my absolute favorite thing she’s ever done.

Yeah I won’t even argue with that, it’s such a massive release and then that outro is so fucking brutal.
Homegirl really went off with that one. I’d love to see her tackle something that is kinda metal tbh, there’s so many different directions she could go in at this point

God damn, that wouldn’t happen but I’d love it… a Julie Christmas x Cult of Luna style collab… I could see her style going well with some folksy black metal bands too
