I admit this band has some good stuff, but generally they are overrated as hell. Seeing this having 4.17 on RYM is just unbelievable

The last quarter of I Am A Tower is a David Bowie "Heroes" cover

yup, strong "Heroes" vibe there, but I'm not sure if this is good or not

fox, there's this concept called minimalism where the repetition is the point. It's employed in a lot of genres, post punk, doom, sludge, classical, drone, krautrock. Like it creates an a t m o s p h e r e. True, I'd usually rather a part be so good that I rewind it myself than it rewind itself ad nauseum, especially back in my mathcore phase, but I've gotten better at letting repetitious music seep into my brain folds.
I think I'm really warming up to I Am a Tower in the context of the album. Wasn't sure how I felt when it was a single. That ending chord that goes on for like 3 mins is really is so cathartic.

Yeah no this is great, did a bunch of mushrooms, put this on and played some Death Stranding, great experience. To me tho I don’t think I’ll ever truly “get” this band. It’s all just too much and I’m dumb, give me riffz or give me death.
Still a great one and done listen for me. Just about as good as anything else I’ve heard from these guys in their “modern” era

bitchfork is cancelling Swans, isn’t that right? They didn’t review The Beggar and now they also seem to neglect this one.

I don't rly like early swans, idk why. I'm sure this album is fine, but it seems par for the course on their post-reunion material.

I find the clang and skronk of early Swans to be unbeatable when you’re in the mood for it. No one else did that sound like them.

Some harsh noise elements would really round out this sound, I think. I think it's an awesome record but it is a bit too dead and unmoving at times, like the closer. Just not enough happening there. But when it falls into a good groove or the songs explode, it's really something. Like the "breakdown" in the t/t. I'm positive this material will definitely be best experienced live at deafening volumes.
