That is also something I find odd. I can understand people not liking this but I’d figure from at least the musical variety and fun with genre hopping it at least be a 2 out of 5. Seeing people bomb rate this so bad is Amusing to experience and see for sure.
how do sleep token fans not see that people hate this because the "fun genre hopping" is the literal main deterrent. i like candy, and i like pizza but putting them together makes a sleep token esque unholy abomination. that and the genres they pull from aren't well done iterations of them. and they aren't combined well either.

Ok but like I honestly would argue that there's a ocean between this and the 3 artists I mentioned, that's why I'd say this does not belong in that same convo. if the 0.5 floor is reserved for BOTDF-level atrocities, this objectively cannot be less than like 2 stars. 1.5 maybe. to give this the same rating as that is saying you believe they are an equal plane and, to be honest I disagree with that because I feel the instrumentals and stuff are significantly more developed.
annoying? sure, absolutely, we can operate on that. but where we diverge is i simply do not understand how this is equally as unlistenable as like, for example, the Josh Schriver album that he released on some weird streaming service, or BookTok: The Album, or Soggy Butt Queef, or ANY BOTDF project. if you're limiting it to bands that are/were successful, i would say the most recent Puddle of Mudd album has a song with a far more ill-fitting trap beat than even the ones here.

ngl that makes their falloff in my eyes even more depressing. they had a wonderful song and were never able to recapture it.

pretty sure that dude is off the fent tho. I dont think anyone's expecting him to make the magnum opus of crack house music.

true that.

tbh tho I think there's a very synthetic and plasticine quality to this band that keeps me from liking it. im sure lots of people think it sounds tight and heavy and melodic but I can only speak for myself when I say there's something very inorganic sounding about these newer metalcore adjacent bands on the digitized-sounding "djent" tip

i definitely see where the dislike is i just feel like if this is a 0.5 then the stuff I mentioned should be in the negative stars to compensate

pretty sure I said this in the spiritbox thread, but im actually glad this band is doing their thing even if its not at all for me. lots of kids are going to go down the music rabit-hole after discovering this band, and that's a good thing. im sure lots of their fans are adult Harry Potter fans who have Hufflepuff stickers on their Subarus who will never get into cool music like the aforementioned and that's fine too.

lol I mean I recognize that people see it as such. I think for me the key component is that the mood is maintained throughout in their melodramatic/theatrical nature with the music, hence the genre hoping doesn’t bother me, I always felt it worked pretty well.
Ultimately like most things in life: it’s about preference. The candy pizza comparison is a bit extreme to me but I acknowledge that’s where the roadblock is for those who don’t like it.

I think if those bands still had the same impact they used to, they would but nobody really cares about botdf or puddle of mudd anymore lol unless either of their singers legal troubles are what's being talked about. this band getting shat on or dick-rode by the masses really just means they must being doing something right (even if it sounds shitty to me)

i think as i age the less i feel like actively hating on artists just trying to do their thing. i can accept this being comfortably whatever and then move on to other things but some people don't wanna do that. currently locked in on a stevie wonder run, it's a good time!

everyone loves a punching bag. a tale as old as time. and Stevie wonder is incredible man. hard to be a hater when you're listening to that shit dawg
