“What I find interesting is how little people actually talk about this album, considering the massive cultural impact of Linkin Park actually making a comeback.

People are hyped about the band coming back, but this album really has no sticking power.”

Completely agree. I know plenty of people that bought tickets to their show here and literally have not listened to the record. Can’t say I blame them. This album is a big fucking nothing

Copying because of the fucking page break:

“The title track on One More Light has more heart and passion in it than literally every song here put together.”

this might be missing the mark but i wonder how many are secretly listening but not wanting to get on some "scientology watchlist" for it by being too open

Not that I'm a defender of the lunatic asylum cult that is Scientology or anything, but the whole 'I don't engage in Scientology media' argument has been so blatantly flimsy over the years it's hilarious.

People love to kick up a big fuss and shout about how controversial it all is, but if the wider cultural system really cared about it the latest Top Gun movie wouldn't have made $1.496 billion dollars.

The church of space beep boop is big dumb but it has no bearing on how I view this album

that seems more accurate, i just kinda said that because i know some people are super vocal and would probably cut off even long time friends over this stuff, like i have friends who side eye fans of the funeral portrait for taking a manson tour, which to me is just, yeah fuck Manson but i think TFP was going for the bag and at that point it's an important question about consumption under capitalism

it’s the same people that would go “oh you’re a socialist, but you have an iPhone and a TV etc”

yeah dumbass, we exist under a capitalistic society, you have to do what you have to do to survive. I was kinda bummed when I saw Reba Meyers was playing guitar for Manson… but I thought about it for about 5 seconds and realized if that fucker asked me to play for him I’d say yes in a heartbeat.

Get your fuckin bag.

Criticizing someone for watching Mission Impossible or listening to the new Linkin Park is just virtue signaling of the absolute highest degree. I didn’t sign my soul over to Xenu just because I wanna see Tom Cruise jump a motorcycle off a skyscraper.

Now criticizing the band for prominently featuring someone who was dismissive and actively harassed an SA victim when their previous lead vocalist (who fucking killed himself) had been open about his own abuse is a different story.

wait you mean to tell me that one can like Tom Cruise as an actor and like movies he makes but not be down with his beliefs or actions!?

holy fucking shit who'd've thunk - here I thought that watching a Tom Cruise film made you an L. Ron lover, and that due to his affiliation with Scientology all Tom Cruise's (clearly Scientology-espousing) films were 1s

I know thank god man, I thought I’d have to personally suck his dick when I went to watch top gun in 3D

For the record venin you seem reasonable but it you know people that would be willing to end friendships over liking a band that’s opening for a problematic musician… idk that’s kind of crazy to me.

i mean it is true that by consuming content he's involved in, you're sending money directly to the church, but then you get into the whole 'ethical consumption under capitalism' debate where no matter what you buy/consume, someone along the line will be getting fucked over, etc etc

Actually quite like Emptiness Machine but haven't given this a listen. The other singles did nothing for me

Yeah I get that Asd… but the hard truth is even if I boycott Tom Cruise movies they will continue to make a billion dollars , the problematic musician thing is a little more nuanced I think. If I find a musician to be problematic they don’t see a cent from me aside from the pennies a year that Spotify pays out to them, I think that argument has a lot more sway when you’re buying merch directly from a band and are repping them out in public.

I dunno tho, I don’t lose any sleep over it. I think a more important problem in the industry is what Chappell Roan pointed out. Actors have unions, writers have unions, musicians should have fucking unions. It’s just like every other part of the entertainment industry, talentless blood suckers in suits make all of the money and rape the artist. Every artist signed to a major label should be in a union.

i think if it was a band that wasnt so lyrically explicitly tied to things scientology is harmful towards people would probably feel different but since mental health struggle is so omnipresent throughout lps music i do not fault anybody who finds it icky. evidently most people dont give a shit though the album was massive, and i dont really care what other people listen to anyway

this album is just also bad lmao

Scientology is bad but it’s the least of this albums problems, Emily is legit the best part of this record

I think I might’ve said that already lol

One More Light (Even if overall is still their worst record) had more life and depth in its production.

No joke, I had to pause about Halfway through Two Faced, pulled up Meteora and played Figure.09 and quickly realized they are the *exact* same song.

Yeah, it's essentially an amalgamation of 'One Step Closer' and 'Figure.09'.
