"Mylo Xyloto was really the start of their downfall"

Listened to this whilst cleaning the house and it actually wasn't awful. Kinda digging some of the more cinematic and chilled moments. Lyrics are a big bag of balls though but that's what you sign up for with Coldplay

Mylo and Ghost Stories are so so much better than X/Y

ghost stories is but it and mylo are in the same tier for different reasons

is that really a hot take anywhere lol, X&Y is one of the most forgettable albums I'm certain I've heard but could not describe a single thing about in my life

its got its moments but it is certainly the oldplay album that is most loaded with nyquil lol (shit even j guided me through a powerful slumber lfg). insane to me that album of all things was the most sold album worldwide that year

Besides Don't Panic, Viva La Vida and clocks which are ok I really can't stand these guys. People say their music puts them to sleep but something about Chris Martin's voice actively annoys me.

X&Y caught me at just the right time in life to have plenty of standing power in my brain. Songs like "Square One," "White Shadows," and "Low" really stuck with me over the years, but nostalgia is a fickle thing and a recent dive back into that album revealed how truly mid it is overall.
I think Mylo Xyloto was such a jarring disappointment for me that my stubbornness can't bear to think that it holds a candle to anything that came before. Maybe it deserves a revisit.

yeah I actually just listened to it again and still slog city but White Shadows was pretty cool. I miss when they still let Jonny do stuff

Viva La Vida is an aberration because in the grand scheme of things, the decline begins rather sharply after A Rush of Blood to the Head

thing is viva is also their best album by a wide margin

This is insulting music for my ass to listen to. I think it makes “ass music” sound good.

Viva is timeless

Viva is indeed a great album. Makes me sad that they can't flex their creativity muscles anymore and write something like "Yes" or "Violet Hill" or "Strawberry Swing."

We live in a world where telling people they are all special, incapable of doing wrong, and that humanity is all one and together makes them feel so mushy and good inside that they go out and purchase a record with no musical substance whatsoever.

The newest Rick Beato's video about having 15 writers for one of these songs prompted me to come here and 1 this lol

Kinda like iAAM for some reason. Chris Martin needs to stop shagging his keyboard though.

I genuinely don't mind Spheres, and this isn't *that* bad either. I do think Spheres has higher highs (Colaratura) and lower lows (Biutyful), but this is a pleasant listen. Only album from Coldplay I refuse to go back to is A Head Full of "Shambolic" Dreams.
