I discovered Cave in 2019 while crawling around my attic boring holes in the roof to vent out my bathroom fans. I had an old Bluetooth speaker in the corner by the ladder and a shuffle going of about 30 random songs from different artists. My playlist ended and one of the similar artists was Grinderman and Man In the Moon came on. I stopped what I was doing and just listened, absorbed for those few minutes. I cam down from the attic and my Cave obsession began

I can't even remember my first exposure to Nick Cave, I just feel like he's been with me my whole life. I probably saw/heard something cool on the internet in college, back when I would listen to every new band I checked out's WHOLE DISCOGRAPHY for some reason, and I just loved most of his shit. Nothing touches 80s Cave, early Bad Seeds, The Birthday Party. Legendary stuff.

Did have some compilations with the 80s stuff on it but wasn’t taken with it at all.
Remember watching MTV when ‘Do You Love Me’ came out and I definitely became interested.
When Murder Ballads came out my mate had it on CD and absolutely loved it. I thought it was alright but we were round his house and after a few cans he was acting out Stagger Lee and had us all in stitches. Proper tears down the face crying with laughter. I still remember it to this day and it brings a smile to me face.

Murder Ballads was the first Nick Cave CD I bought as a teen like 15 years ago after hearing Red Right Hand in an episode of The X-Files. That was a formative album for me, and my friends and I spent many years laughing at those lines in Stagger Lee and O'Malley's Bar, great times. Cool kids know it's like top 4 Cave.
Cave is winding back to his more recognizable sound with Carnage and now Wild God. While I'm glad there's more of a band sound again, there's something kinda missing from this one, prob just a little too religious and gospely in general for my tastes. 3.8 range. Opener and closer don't do much for me. My favs are the singles, Cinnamon Horses, and Conversion.

Nick Cave recently said in an interview that to get the most out of this the fans should all wear nothing but panties listening to it

Also, I think the first time I ever heard Cave in my life, years before listening to him fully, was Red Right Hand in that one Hellboy scene. Loved it but couldn't find the song lol

Murder Ballads is one of my favorites for sure. Awww Talons, Song of the Lake is so damn good though. Closer took a while but I like it now

The pure ecstasy in the big crescendos on Conversion and the title track is addictive, in the same way White Elephant was.

Song of the Lake isn't bad I just think it starts very suddenly and doesn't really change, I kinda wish something else opened the album. This is one of those that the track list order maybe could've been better.

The start is jarring, but I don't care it doesn't ever change when it's at that level.
