I guess I'm in the minority but I find Javier bardem really unconvincing in most of the films he's in. The atmosphere of Skyfall is so dour but he's so dialled up to 11 with the face reveal, etc. I didn't find the set pieces compelling or exciting, and bond's return to his home doesn't feel like it sheds light on the character. Frankly it's just a bore and chore, coupled with the lame Aston Martin retread. To be fair I was very dialled out of the movie, like I almost fell asleep.

This is pretty good but why the random Ethel Cain slander in the review? Preacher’s Daughter is great

why is the bond thread getting spammed with non bond things

I can’t pause Rush to listen to this.

Great question, Smok.
Fog, I think all that is fair; it's been ages since I've seen that movie and I was a lot younger back then, so maybe the sheen will have worn off by now if I watch it again. I just loved anything Bond when I was younger so it was easy for me to gloss over flaws

Casino Royale: Phenomenal, literally saved the Bond franchise and gave us the best, most well written, and personal take on the character that was the previously one dimensional aside from maaaybe OHMSS. And it also gave us Vesper Lynd, who shows that she is Bond’s intellectual equal. She’s smart, she’s cunning, she’s drop dead gorgeous. And is by far the best Bond girl (and even calling her that is a disservice to the character and Eva Green).
Quantum of Solace: solid 8/10, extremely over hated film. Yes, it has issues with shaky cam bullshit. But I think it works very well as almost an epilogue to Casino Royale. Breakneck pace, Daniel Craig continues to show that he’s easily the best actor to step into the role.
Skyfall is a very close second to Casino Royale. Javier Bardem and Judi Dench in particular really shine in this one, since their relationship is so complex and personal. Action is very well shot, amazing movie. Overall top 3 Bond, behind only Casino Royale and FRWL.
Spectre: mid as it gets, the first half isn’t terrible, and there’s bits of the second half are really good (train fight specifically), but once they show up to Blofelds base the movie completely falls apart. The whole “I am the author of all your pain” completely fucking shits on Silva as a character and Le Chiffre as well. Madeline and Bond’s relationship is undercooked as fuck and when she tells him she loves him I nearly laughed out loud in the theater because of how fucking dump that was. 5/10 at best

Okay this does start to get a little too mellow

Definitely a few songs to pull from tho, could even be a grower

NTTD completely saves the shitty arc that was the “Bond found love” bullshit in spectre, the first half hour of that movie does a better job of making me care about Madeline than the entirety of Spectre. And don’t even get me starting on the tear jerking moments. Bond visiting Vesper with her theme being played quietly in the background brings the waterworks every time.
The action is fantastic throughout the whole thing, but more specifically the opening car chase, the entirety of the Cuba section (felix…😭), dat forest scene, and the stairwell culminating in one of the most brilliant shots in any of these movies. I’m talking about when Bond turns the corner and it almost one for one looks like the iconic gun barrel openings. The cheering in the theater when that happened was deafening. And don’t even get me started on the ending. Absolutely devastating and such an incredible send off to a character that I basically grew up watching and loving for fifteen years. Love NTTD… top 5 Bond film.
So ya there you have it. 3 of Daniel Craig’s Bond films are in my top 5, with Casino Royale possibly being my favorite film of all time… one that gets way too much hate and is easily a top 10 bond film, then a “for every good idea we have we’re gonna throw in two fucking stupid ones” kinda movie in spectre. Probably would rank that one around 15-17. So yeah, Daniel Craig fucking clears every other Bond and it’s not even particularly close.
