Hey man it’s possible. They toured with Counterparts and buddied up with them.

The peppering is definitely a "here and there" thing. No one song sounds like it could be a Counterparts track; it's in small moments, like this once-and-done guitar lead on Kintsugi that makes me think of the outro to Witness.
Or maybe I'm just hearing things lol

I was thinking more about the djunz and the dude yelling over them

This is good but I do think having to shoehorn big ANTHEMIC choruses every song drag it a bit. Kind of reminds me of new Polaris but not -quite- as good.

the main problem is the choruses here aren't anthemic, they fall real flat, despite how hard they tried

Pretty cool album and I was never really a fan of this band's previous material. Choruses are hit or miss tho

its both of these at the same time tbh. the hooks are typically too stock to feel all that big but theyre also clearly trying to go for that mold. its most effective on the first two songs when the parts are just kinda weirder (opening duo) and not trying to be catchy bc otherwise it comes across as forced

i can’t stand the choruses where the tempo leading into it comes to a grinding halt (garden wall, what do we see, everything that once)
i like dissociative being and depth i roam’s choruses a good bit tho because they generally flow better within the structure of their respective tracks

Damn this is really good. These guys have been steadily getting better.

If they dropped like half the choruses and just went full heavy instead this would be better. But it's still pretty damn good.

this is still heavy in my rotation, Chris’ heavy vocals are too good

1:14-1:30 of garden wall may be my favorite piece of core music of the year so far, such a sick fuckin scream + riff combo

thanks for bumping this cause it motivated me to give it another spin and I probably just had the most enjoyable listen yet. such a damn good record. sometimes shit sounds so much better after all the pre release excitement and expectations wear off.
