early albums were definitely very bold and creative but i feel like this is more mature and well made overall, also the huge improvement in the vocals really makes a difference for me

dan's vocals on this are perhaps the best performance he's ever put to tape

I wouldn't even compare this to Periphery. Periphery has devolved into a meme band with zero songwriting skills. This band still has a soul at least.

I don't really get the Periphery comparisons aside from subgenre. They go for completely different vibes and put emphasis on different things. Periphery will always be riffier/"flashier" while Tesseract has always been more atmospheric.

Great first listen for me. It's unfortunate that this dropped at the same day as Night Verses since that's kind of taking more of my immediate attention, but I know this will end up in my top 10 for the year.

i havent gotten into night verses yet but since i have no history w them im gonna wait for part 2 bc why tf would you drop your album in 30 minute chunks lmao tf. not a fan of that choice. release dates this year have been way too oversaturated in general tho tbh its either all or nothing and theres no room to give music the space it deserves to breathe if you wanna talk about everything

and yea their vibe is v different from periphery lol

Duuuuuude Night Verses FUCKS. If you're not willing to listen to the new album, give their 2018 album a spin. It's one of the best instrumental albums I've ever heard and all 3 members should absolutely be household names. It's just a really unique sound.

Agreed the Night Verses album slaps too.

Today's been a pretty stacked day for releases, I still need to check the new Alkaloid and Baroness properly, but it's definitely been one of the stronger release days of this year so far.

Someone mentioned the mix being quiet and I honestly think the dynamic range being higher is a plus, I often get fatigued quicker on louder records.

This genre peaked with Sikth. All subsequent releases are humble imitators or desperate competitors. Grabs popcorn...

Not gonna lie though, my fav considered "djent" bands are Textures and Meshuggah.

Sikth is great but I can't really get into Meshuggah. I don't know what needs to happen for me to appreciate them, but I feel like I'm failing some sort of social code there.
