After hearing that single I checked their album and they’re fun but otherwise nothing special. The single was an improvement

Can't believe that I'd ever say this but this album would've been better off without a single breakdown.

Gave this a revisit a few days ago and found that my tolerance for this style of breakdown has hit an all time low, to the point where I'd just rather not listen to the album.

the “Orchestral Version” of Mortal Shells they just dropped only solidifies my belief that this type of music belongs in a LotR film

I have to be in the mood for this genre as a whole, but this is top in it's class

Symphony of a Dying Star is the perfect example of how to kill all your momentum with a really hamfisted and unnecessary breakdown.

I mean, I really was enjoying it and where it was going, but that wannabe "To the Hellfire" breakdown just killed my enjoyment (not entirely, cause it finished on a pretty high note) to the point I was waiting for it to be over with so I could get back to the rest of the song lmao

Yeah this rules. It makes sense I'm only truly getting into it now though tbh. The past few years I was just against a lot of black metal stuff, no matter what it had, but this is definitely my preference for black metal. Yeah I know it's not primarily black metal but it is certainly black metal adjacent.
