quickly listening to some augury, seems like the nexus to this is pretty superficial tbh

The violin stuff is undoubtedly awesome but nothing else about this band stands out to me in the slightest.

The bass and the violin and the way they compliment each other have always been a highlight of this band for me, and I'm not sure I need any more standout than that to fully love them, as long as everything else they're doing sounds tight as hell, which it does.

I'd say the way the 2 vocalists blend is also a highlight for me, I get the 'Disney' critique of Tim's cleans sometimes but damn he's such a strong vocalist and has really grown on me, and he's incredible live, and the fact that he's providing the Violin as well is wild, just crazy amounts of talent. Their overall sound is one I honestly don't really go for but those things really help them stand out to me and they're absolutely one of my fav bands.

I'm definitely biased as a bass player though and Plague Flowers/Blackholes are 2 of the greatest bass lines I've ever heard/had the pleasure of playing

I do not like the unexpect because it sounds like someone dropped the metal salad in the kitchen sink.

Yeah, it's a fair critique for sure. I do think as far as the kitchen sink-y metal goes they sit up there with the better/heavier Devin Townsend records as far as being actually great if you're into that sort of thing.

Fables is a ridiculously consistent and coherent album. Far from disjointed honestly.

Their debut is definitely haphazard though, which is admittedly part of the charm lol

Is that a challenge?

telling people not to kill the average is like telling a toddler not to steal candy. RIP average.

Yeah listening to Portal of I front to back is pretty cringe. This flows infinitely better and the songs know when to stop and don't have forced interludes killing the flow.

I was referring to Unexpect's debut actually lol, Portal is still this band's best imo, no surprise considering it took them much longer to write.

And of course, it was much more fresh back then.

Might bump this down tbh, I liked Urn more lol which ig is controversial

i prefer portal of i, i think it's less homogeneous than the rest of their discography. it's less focused but it's more fun tbh imho
