Remove the heavy parts of Sleeptalk and you remove the contrast that made their music somewhat interesting.

Tbh I think I like this album the best out of their whole discog. I really didn't connect with anything I tried from them before this, barring a few songs on Sleeptalk. I really like the blend of heavy-ish instrumentals with synthwave. Rory's voice is perfect for this sound. I also feel like people strongly underestimate how good the instrumental arrangements on this are. Simpler doesn't mean worse. And yeah Without Me kills
Feels too same-y for sure and I understand old fans being disappointed in the change in sound. But as somebody that had never really listened to them before this is the only thing from them that has hooked me in any way.

i like it, but ive long adapted to the fact they're just gonna keep getting poppier. the darker vibe is nice after this album.

That "blegghhh" Rory does in the bridge is pretty sick though.

Tbh I dug the new single, more than Pale Moonlight. The dark synthwave vibe followed by the heavier part including the "blegh" is awesome

would say the breakdowns are forced in both songs but as always the hooks and vocals are good, fine with the heavier synthwave stuff going forward.

^Agreed. Though I'd prefer their synthier heavywave sound of Sleeptalk.
