Need to listen more before I rate but this is definitely a huge step up from NLTL (my least favorite of theirs, sorry). Each individual song has a much stronger identity, which is an element I've found lacking on their last couple releases.

Nothing major, but I do love the small full cut there near the end of Skin Beneath a Scar. Also love whoever went low on that vocal harmony, lol.

I like it more than I thought I would initially. Has a nice crescendo.

It really is hilarious how much of a red herring the singles were. Easily the three most basic sounding songs on the album (all still really good, though).

Hot take, Eulogy should have been the closer. Mass Grave is great but Eulogy feels like it would fit better as the finale.

Not sure why my review got pulled but its whatevs. Needless to say this record brought the goods in SPADES. Soil II made choke up and the choruses on t/t, sworn, flesh & mirrors are earth shatteringly massive. Best songwriters in this genre and its hardly even up for debate.

This is def a 4, probably a 4.5, and maybe a 5 but I need more time. I think I agree with Jeet this isn't their best to me (not yet anyway), but I've 5'd their last 4 so lollll

That ending of What Mirrors Might Reflect where Brendan throws in some nasty highs from END.

Speaking of hot takes.... I would have scrapped 7/26/2020 and made Soil II the opener and everyone could just listen to the full album in shambles from start to finish

I don't think it would be awkward as an opener, but it would be awkward going into Whispers lol.

Aight I avoided the review content until I had heard it twice. Now after reading the review I wanna 5 it lol

@Jay It is someone with an anime profile pic and a positive score for a SYSC album, no release is beyond reproach but uh yeah lmao

No it leaked. Brendan said on twitter that Mirrors is basically Cherished part 2. No wonder it slaps hard. Cherished is my No.1 Counterparts song

@Jay: Thanks for clarifying!

In all honesty Soil II could have worked as a closer too if they made a fade outro for it. One of the few times I've legit wanted to cry when Jesse slides in with that guitar solo towards the end uuuugh.
