Did Chris move on and do anything noteworthy? I thought he was definitely one of the best in the genre, mostly because he just had a fantastic/unique tone to his voice. I dug the harsh vocals too

Just watched Andy Cizek's youtube channel. Holy crap. He's got a lot of variation in his voice! The vocals on this record don't show his full strength yet.

honestly every vid ive seen of andy one taking these songs sounds better than he does on this record

Yeah the production on this makes it feel like I’m listening to boring genericore vocals. Feels like they could’ve chilled out with the production and just let him do his thing

true. all those high-pitched clean got overproduced, nearly didn't realize he was actually that good.
his voice is definitely not generic.
|

Yeah I’m used to it now but I still think it really does him a disservice. He’s blowing up right now though, I hear about him all the time

Andy said he engineered all his own vocals. That implies that they didn't have someone come and mix them after that. Mick Gordon did the synths and production on the rest of the instrumentation as far as I know.
Anyway, I think a producer and mix engineer that would encourage Andy to go easy on the shrill aspects of his voice would help greatly.

I also miss Chris
Andy's voice is kinda dogshit ngl

well then. I like the idea of the band being involved in the production themselves. Even if there are flaws, they should be encouraged.

This one is a great album, but the Amanuensis remains superior if you ask me.
I have the same problem, I always thought Monuments would be better going full instrumental, or with a darker vocalist, not high-pitched emo vocals. Honestly it pains me to say this because I like Andy Cizek.

yes deeper vocals can make it more djent. lol
For Andy and the whole band, this record is definitely considered as a SUCCESS!

Collapse is a certified banger

This is pretty fun, these guys have always done the heavier sections really well and this continues that trend.

I think they should go more prog and less djent metalcore. The Cimmerian shows potential. They could also find another guitarist to replace the loss of Olly to enhance/change up their sound.

*Prog-metal, to clarify. Don't pull an Opeth and become 70s dad rock. Maybe more grooves and some sludge/grind.

I like simple and straightforward metalcore, alternating riffs, breakdowns, melodic instruments. the only track that satisfies me on this album is Cardinal Red
edit: Maybe it has been too Prog-metal for my naive taste. I don't know. The other tracks are good, but not great. they all come across as a bit chaotic, not tightly structured.
