This is the greatest gothic metal album of all time. They refined their style to literal perfection

Yeah it's weird to say this is better than the classics of the genre but on the other hand this is just so good.

i actually like sovran just that little bit more, probably for nostalgia reasons. this is a beast of an album. oddly my fav track is 'night visitor', there's just something about it that stops me in my tracks and gets me very emotional.

also want to point out that this band have the best lyrics in the genre, no contest.

I get that with Burial Fields, also a ballad. Especially towards the end with Heike's chanting.

hawks my man did you change your opinion on Sovran any? If it's still a 2.5 for you, can you articulate as to how you rate that one 2.0 lower than this one when they're almost identical in style and delivery? what am I not getting?

also prefer Sovran ever so slightly. that one's like a 4.73 and this one's a 4.69. or something like that

Thanks noctus for pointing out the lyrics. The album growed a lot with them in front of me and together it becomes a quite aptly soundtrack of the times we're living in. Looking forward to dig through their latest albums

sovran has stellar lyrics too - i'm glad the spoken word bits are more subtle now, they were a bit cringe in arcane rain fell.

The Sethian is a good example of their beyond incredible lyrics.

Haha, noctus, but who of us has not made some missteps during our youth (or later for that matter)? The track after your case in point is a highlight for me. Had a focused listen of sovran just after waking up. Beautiful and sad, shrouded in despair and anxiety. The lyrics are really good. There are easier ways to start a new day though lol

Yes, the sethian is the one that hits me hardest on this
