“a song that revolves around overpopulation and its deleterious effect on the planet”

Great to see them going down the eco-fash route. Just what we needed, another group of idiots putting forward debunked Malthusian bollocks.

“A narrative attached to the album's main concept which deals with existentialism and the possibility that there is no purpose to life”

Aye, why put forward any structural analysis when you can deal in the most juvenile type of nihilism. The guy is nearly 50, just laughable at this point.

I'm not really sure what to make of this yet, I DO like it but not sure how much. Maybe it just needs more time to marinate. An album of cool isolated segments thus far, rather than an overall collection of juicy goodness.

My goodness the energy level here is delicious. Nicely diverse and brimming with enthusiasm and spirit. And those riffs in the final minute of Black Smoke Curling from the Lips of War!!! Really lovely album.

Fresh sound for them too, feels like it's lit (meaning 'illuminated', not 'oh man this is good' in youth speech) in the same way as the vid for Necromantic Fantasies in a way. Same clear, light-but-dark ambience. You can super clearly hear all layers here, there's space between them.

Really impressed.

Yeah Trif! I mentioned the energy myself, this is a 48 year old vocalist doing extreme metal and still sounds like he’s loving it! That bit with the Latin chant at the end of Existential Terror where he shouts ‘again!’ before the final repetition really makes me smile because Dani is loving what he’s doing and you can feel that.

Absolutely agree. It puts a wide smile on my face that they're still releasing albums this heartfelt and feeling this genuinely alive.

Already know a 4.0 is not high enough for this. Might be their best in many many years! So melodic too!

Hahaha yeah Pleb!

Also I don't know if this was mentioned before but the orchestrations are really cool and fitting and light-hearted. Marthus did a great job on them, and his drumming here is super cool too. A great addition to the band next to the often (and rightfully!) lauded guitarists!

These 2 guitarists Dani has recruited are their best ever though, let's be real.

They're so creative with their riffs and there's not a single throwaway guitar solo on here either.

For sure, they are absolutely incredible. How'd you rank the last three now Pleb? Such a hard question. I feel this has potential to be better than... I don't know, the seven records before it?

i mean Aluktodolo is right it is a bit stupid that it goes the whole malthus route

it would be easy to make it industry/emissions and it'd probably fit the track's whole theme without laying the blame on random people barely contributing to climate change

Interesting to see Dani’s lyrics being taken particularly seriously…

He’s a fiction writer, he likes a good tale of despair however much truth there could be in elements… he’s not actually Lord Abortion either yaknow?

still impressed with their comeback but this is probably the weakest of the three for me

yeh i suppose but ultimately the message is pretty half-baked so i don't think it is as good as the other tracks

i think the song is supposed to be representing a mindset rather than anything literal or to be taken as verbatim. i mean if "existential terror" doesn't spell that out, nothing does. it's representing an existential crisis, it's not supposed to be rational.

"still impressed with their comeback but this is probably the weakest of the three for me"

i think this is the best one - and one of the best the band has ever done.
