This album was ridiculously good. I still put it up as one of the best punk/metal albums ever. Amazing guitar, lyrics...I wish they still sounded like this. I didn't crossover with them when they changed their sound.

If you follow the order of their album and get The Artist In The Ambulance next, you might be able to ease into their newer sounds and like them.

I gave a listen to Alchemy and Vheissu and just couldn't get down. Clearly they are bigger than ever so they are doing something right. They always been beyond talented.
When I heard Illusion, my jaw dropped. Totally blown away, so it's hard to measure up to that. I liked Artist, but they went into that new sound that they've been perfecting and I was lost. A little slower, less metally. They're are some good songs on there, but nothing that got me too excited.

After reading your review I have a strong desire to buy this, so great job on that. And yeah, you didn't mention a single track... and still I thought it was very well written. I just can't quite decide whether I want this or Artist In The Ambulance.

I made some awesome purchases at virgin records, I think this is my favorite Thrice album now.
Artist is my second favorite though, then Vheissu is third, then both of the Alchemy Index albums.

I would rank the Thrice albums I've heard like this:
The Illusion of Safety > Vheissu > Artist = Alch Vol 3-4 > Alch Vol 1-2

this is so close to being as good as vheissu for me. the only reasons this isn't a 5 is 1) i don't really like The Red Death and 2) there isn't enough variation on this album for my tastes.
