That short black metal-ish part at the end of Emptiness is just so sweet. I wanna see these guys take a full run on BM.

That'd be a shocking turn in style, but more from those BM-ish kind of riffing would be a very welcomed change, at least, I'd highly appreciate it.
...or just anything in the vein of "Emptiness"! I'm addicted to that song.

But if Chase is serious in this interview, then our hopes are immediately... gone.

Eh maybe not a full switch, but seeing them play around with these sounds means they are exploring and we might see that incorporated more into their overall sound.

Agreed. I don't foresee a change in style, but the inclusion of more blackened elements in their next album sounds very likely.

I wish! And of course, I can't wait what they will come up with next time.

I bet he meant more like..."we won't be a grind band", maybe?
I can def see room for adding some doomy melodies and a blackened tone, let's see!

I also don't see why he said they put more "rules" into their sound for this, as if their sound isn't ruled, cause it is. They need just to prog a little to both mentioned genres.

I believe he meant 'by the book', either in the grind-ish approach or in the doomy closer. Within canons.

About rules, I think he meant just a few technical stuff under that, like he said in here:
https://www.brooklynvegan.com/gatecreeper-surprise-release-new-record-an-unexpected-reality-listen/
"We usually have a hard rule in Gatecreeper that we don’t have blast beats (...), but for the first side of this record we lifted that rule and ran with it."

"So I wanted to do something that was a little bit different to motivate myself — almost putting more restrictions on us, by making music in a specific style. Those restrictions brought out a little more creativity."
I am referring to this comment from Metal Injection's article.

Yes...I referred to that as well. I actually think the work of this EP ended up being more creative than the LP, thus the contradiction I was trying to emphasize. But in the end, completing with garas' input, we can say that maybe they went out of the book for this one, but perhaps with 2 other books XD

This was sick and Emptiness is a lovely contrast from the 7 minutes of hxc you listen to get there.
