Regarding The Allman Brothers Band, their debut is more bluesy while the next three albums are more southern. The Grateful Dead also began with a lot of blues elements and then became more psychedelic.

ZZ Top rule hard. Are Texans considered rednecks? Don't know really which states are considered rednecks.

The term "rednecks" usually refers to the Deep South, aka west of Texas (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I dunno if Florida should be included as a "redneck state", but some of the easiest examples are: Tennesse, Alabama, Mississippi, Virginia and the Carolinas.

I think the term Redneck stands for the Americans who live in the southern region of the USA.

This is fucking cool. I knew Free Bird before and it's still the highlight but all the other songs are on a similar level

Yeah, it does. Check out their next album, Second Helping, too. It's just as great, in my opinion.

That comment blows my mind.

I know it's shocking. I actually have only vaguely heard of these guys before today until I stumbled upon a "Best Rock Songs Of All Time" (which half were disco and jazz for some reason) and this was #1 so I checked it out.

Fucking love it, of course. The lyrics are a tad too cheesy for my tastes but those last 4 minutes are goat.

Agreed, it's a true classic. I'd definitely suggest you check out more of Skynyrd's music. Free Bird is one of their most popular songs for good reason, but they're just generally a great band, especially the first two albums.

Free Bird is pretty great. Unfortunately, growing up in Alabama kind of causes me to cringe at the mention of these guys.

Incredible album. Nothing else of theirs came close to this one though for me.
