In reality this is more like a 3.5, even if worst SYL.

Maybe, my opinion could've been skewed because I listened to City and then this right after. Will listen again today

This is so different from the other SYL records yet it's still undeniably them. Townsend said in a recent Metal Hammer interview that after the insanity that took place for him during the Alien process (getting back on all the drugs EXCEPT his bipolar meds) he decided to call it a day and end SYL with an album that basically showed how "po-faced it all was". Think it's a decent way of wrapping up the band and while it'd be nice to bring it back I don't want Devy to collapse into the mindset he was in when the band's best works (City and Alien) were recorded. I hear Epicloud has some of the schizo metal in it though so it sounds like Epicloud is his chance to finally do something akin to Noisescapes (the Noisescapes tapes evolved into some SYL and some stuff on Ocean Machine: Biomech (including Funeral, Regulator and The Death of Music)).

If it were labeled under one of Devy's side projects it'd get fives across the board. But, that's how it goes.

It's fantastic. A cool transitioning point from his SYL mentality into his new do-gooder persona. "Never fear love!" Seriously, bitch please. Epicloud is sooo damn cheesy.
