It might be more an abstract sort of vibe thing because when I think about the instrumentation it’s quite different as well as Valerie’s voice from Victoria’s but I just feel like it does beach house one better for some reason. I hear it and I get the impulse to deprecate a band I love. It so good

Probably my favourite shoegaze/hazey dream pop I’ve heard, so I’m for it

I think it has to do with the slow sort of “waltzlike” (but in 4/4) feel maybe? Idk but beyond solid. Still gotta piece together the tracks that aren’t tekka dsco chocolate and dancers tho

This is prob like a 3.5 with the caveat that it has two amazing songs. even “chocolate matter” I think the second half could be stronger/more uhhh creative but “dancers” is, im starting to think, maybe just one of the best songs period. It’s probably the first few chords of “chocolate matter” that really shoot me in the heart. (Although one part of that was me listening to it immediately after a breakup). Definitely my favorite parts of the album are the shoegazy songy things, love that “fruitcake and cookies” outro too. Somehow feel like that’s them at their most inspired, that the bulk of the glitch stuff is mostly “impressive” rather than moving etc.

Would have to disagree, cause I find it very moving how the glitch elements intertwine with more traditional melodies and rhythms, and how it conveys the themes of a digital utopia/humanity and AI converging (although it's possible other people place those themes on the album more than it was actually specifically written about them). It's just a really cool dichotomy for me. 2:50 of Fruitcake and Cookies is probably my favourite part of the album for that reason

yeah, agree with Colton. I think almost every instance of glitch here is traded off v coherently against something smoother (Tekka into Dsco is textbook, neither track would pack anything like the same clout on their own). personally always vibed this as aesthetic mood music more than anything thematic, and I think the role glitch plays in recurrently weaving and unweaving these tracks is p much spot on to that end. first half of Fruitcake is a good spot, find it v hard to take the homogenous shoegaze outro of that track as more inspired
gonna peep that new track rn. release date when smh
