What's a good album length?

I guess it depends on the genre, and I haven't put much thought into it but 45 min or less is nice

yeah the length takes it down a bit, but this is really nice

55 mins isn't over-long for an album if the time is utilized properly. in this case it is over-long simply because it feels over-long, rather than just because it is 55 mins

ofc yeah there are albums that much better utilize their time and pacing so that the length doesn't feel unnecessary. some albums well over an hour can feel half as long if done correctly

I wonder, though, if it's ever much of an issue of an album being too *short* 🤔

i think there are different kinds of "too short"

if it's too short because it doesn't flesh out it's ideas enough to leave a lasting impression then that is just as big of a flaw as "too long"

But if it's too short because it is so engaging that it feels like it's over too fast, or leaves you desperate for more, this can be a good thing. TKOL is a good example of the latter for me. It's too damn short, but it's only because i want to start it over again as soon as it's over.

would you penalise, by way of rating, something that was "too short" bc it leaves you wanting more?

I think that kind of "too short" is probably better referred to as half-baked

that can also apply to long albums as well. Fear Incoculum felt half-baked to me. "desperate for more" is certainly the better of the two, though

@anatelier depends. In the case of tkol I'd give it extra points instead

also agreed with ledd, you can half-bake an over-long album as well

Never, an album being too short is never a bad thing imo
