Shadows and Depths on Absent Light is better than all the songs on here except Sunlifter, Old Ghosts, and Cascade Locks.

I’m consistently surprised by the hate Absent Light gets. Thus far, I’d agree that this feels more like them going through the motions. Karl’s loss, I feared, would be greater than it is, but I still prefer him.

Oh...and Ursa Minor is one of the best MS tracks, period.

I'm in the same camp, I don't understand the reaction to that album at all. I really enjoy it, and while some of the tracks were clearly way stronger than others, I feel like it's very solid all the way through. It feels WAY more lively than this album to me. People say they were "going through the motions" on that album but THIS is the only album of theirs where I really feel that to be the case. I feel absolutely nothing while listening to this.

''but since i live in Birmingham where this band is from i cannot help but compare this to like really old ERRA lol i like it less every time i listen to it''
Cept no member from this band is from anywhere close to there lol. That's only where the car crash happened

Also lol @ people saying the vocals are boring or monotonous. This is one of the only modern metalcore bands I still come back to because the vocals dont make me cringe. Most other bands just sound like they're trying too hard

That would make much more sense. I may have misread. Not a good day for me

Jamming this again to see if it grows, but so far no dice. There are fleeting moments of greatness but overall this is some of the most dull writing they’ve ever put out. I figured that the shorter runtime would mean this was packed to the brim with ideas but it somehow manages to be their most sparse album

Jeet said it best I think. I'm somewhere between satisfied and dissapointed with this album. The songs are fantastic, but only 8 new songs (not counting Sunlifter) and 2 are interludes? Weak. Also, Some Dreams should have led into a dramatic closer like Difference of Vengeance and Wrongs. The album builds up so much momentum with two of the biggest bangers, then just... ends. I have my gripes, but still enjoying this very much.
