Sorry but one of the comments said "This is everything that Nails should have been" that's just straight up dumb to even compare this band to Nails. Even Brendan said in an interview that Nails is full on chaos and that's not what they're going for.

The vocals are also distorted as fuck, it kinda seems like they wanted them to blend into the sound rather than stand apart. Generally not my cup of tea but I think it works well enough here.

The first minute of Absence... Yes.

This album killed me 11 times. I don't exist after this record. Such an insanely brutal album. The production and mix is also incredible and this is easily one of my top 3 albums of the year so far

Lovely little review, earning that contrib tag :-)

This was a wall of brutality which I guess is the appeal for most, but I kept hoping for more intricate details and diverse pacing and it never happened. I dunno I'm old.

Two tracks in, so much better than their debut.

I liked the 2017 record.
Gonna dive into this later today.
Transition in Absense from BM to HC is great songwriting tho.

Their EP is a little easier to get into, if you're curious, though I cant promise an abundance of dynamics. Their murky, to-the-point brutality is, as you say, kind of the point.

Though having said that, there's a lot of nuance to this, particularly in the mathy-er cuts and closer

yeah there's a surprising amount of nuance to this, weird comparison but it reminds me of that scene in person of interest where hammer-likened operative shaw is asked to work like a scalpel.. this is like that, fully destructive but very precise in what it obliterates

I've been waiting for this shit since the EP and three songs in I could not be further from disappointed. Absolutely obliterates. This is definitely gonna be on quite a bit in the coming weeks.

Yeah this is not doing it for me. Guess I’m on a different page than everyone else since everyone’s praising the production and it totally kills the album for me. Guitars are too high in the mix, vocals and bass are drowned out, annoying static effect on the guitars, vocals, and cymbals (high-end only? can’t tell)...all this combines for a bad case of wall of sound for me where nothing can breathe. Listening to Material Control after this really cemented these criticisms for me.

Also the songwriting just isn’t that great. I mean a breakdown here or there is fun, but as a fan of heavy music I’ve gone through it twice and am just bored most of the time.

I don't know if it's the production but Brendan's vocals seem so one-note this album and I seriously cannot understand almost a single word he's saying which is not a problem for me with most artists.
