My musical taste is deeper than it is wide, I tend to focus in on one particular style and obsess over it while ignoring more popular bands. I know I've at least streamed songs by these guys before, but they must not have grabbed me enough to bother with an entire album. Even now I streamed the first two songs from Is This It? and it did nothing for me...the songs here sound better? Maybe it's a "you had to live through it and grow with it" thing, or perhaps it's just a shitty taste on my part thing.

Never cared much for these guys but their last album cover is one of the funniest and most blatant middle fingers to a record label ever

@Sowing
I always kind of thought the same thing abt it (it's just a competent okay indie record) but it really really grew on me. I think it's one of those albums where it doesn't fully hit until you know the songs in and out. Once I got there it became my go-to walking home after a night out album.

One of those bands that I've loved since the debut dropped, but god I wish they would just throw in the towel. There is probably more naff Strokes material than good stuff at this point : (

Doof said the first track is twice as good as any other here. I just checked said track and thought it was lame. This does not bode well

I'm listening to the rest right now (up to 'At the Door') and I am dead
This thing is so flat, sorry all

I like the album but I really don't get the hype around the first track.

'Why Are Sundays...' is also near unlistenable
The first track is the only one with a BPM above slug mode, it sounds like exactly why I ever listened to this band at all.
I know their whole thing is artfully coming across don't give a shit but the rest is so horizontal, esp after the pretty fun Voidz album

Early Ranked/Rated:
1. The Adults Are Talking [5] only song good enough to make a 'Greatest Hits' imo, it's maybe a bit too obviously their signature winning formula...but it wins (pay attention rest of album)
2. Ode to the Mets [3.5]
3. At the Door [3.5]
4. Eternal Summer [3.5] the Pink Floyd sounding vocals chorus is something different at least
5. Selfless [3] totally mid tier Strokes
6. Bad Decisions [3]
7. Not the Same Anymore [2.5] 5:37? really? meh
8. Brooklyn Bridge [1.5]
9. Sundays So Depressing [1.5]

'Even now I streamed the first two songs from Is This It? and it did nothing for me...the songs here sound better?'
'Is This It?' was a solid 3.5 album but overhyped at the time - it's a way more consistent album than this one
'Room on Fire' I might prefer to it though, that's also a 3.5, probably the one I've listened to the most.
This one is a bit like 'Angles' in terms of quality highs and lows, that album had some ok tunes and stands up fine next to this - honestly it might also be better than this one, knocking this down to 4th
The best song on that one was also the opener

This thing suffers from the same bloated writing as eyes of the world and is really pretty freaking sleepy over all.
