Honestly, the "anti-mask" video doesn't really bother me all that much. When every other artist and celebrity is all in on the "WEAR YOUR FUCKING MASK PLAGUE RAT" and "LOCKDOWN FOREVER" train, it's somewhat refreshing to see at least one band call it out, even if it's one as dumb and in your face as 5FDP.

This band has always been a cringe Republican mouth piece. This time they're just not hiding it anymore.

The comments above only prove my point. Any criticism of the lockdown strategy or mask mandates and the vileness comes right out. And I do wear a mask indoors and at work, so chill the fuck out. That being said, I don't think they prevent that much (Fauci back in March said as much) and I don't go around coughing on old people like you think I do. Plus, the virus hit it's peak way back in April/May, so I don't see what the hysteria is still about at this point. We're basically just plodding along because everyone thinks it's still the black plauge.

Also, calling people "plague rats" is honestly fucking gross and dehumanizing, like wanting to breath is somehow a fucking crime. It also makes everyone more distrustful and afraid of each other, which is perfect for the ruling class.

I'm not talking about lockdowns I'm talking about masks. The masks are meant to protect others FROM YOU. Not to protect you. Also the Mid-West is hitting a major amount of cases and the Eastern Seaboard is seeing an increase as well so no. Also bullshit on Fauci as he has been repeatedly saying ad museum TO WEAR A MASK.

Know what else is dehumanizing? Going around encouraging others to actively propagate a pandemic that is killing old people and those with immune deficiencies. Wanting to breathe? In Asian countries, their citizens wear a mask for a God damn cold, and you don't hear them fucking complaining.

the whole USA is running back up in the numbers and lots of cities are having hospital bed shortages again, so it's not at all "plodding". And while criticism of the strategy is fine, you're not actually providing any counter points or alternatives sans "mask people are obsessed". There are arguments that the strategy should've been more focused on ventilation and certain medications over just obsessive masking, though.

Andro my state has been spiking in cases since September, setting records for highest average daily case count every week, in large part thanks to rightwing anti-mask rhetoric

Why the obsession with cases and not the hospitalization rates? Everywhere I turn I hear about cases spiking in another region of the country, but nothing in the media about how many are actually needing medical assistance. Seems like a convenient way to keep the fear going as hospital staff around the country are being laid off due to lack of Covid patients.

Also, the "yOuRE KiLLiNg GrANdMA" thing is a meme at this point. No one's going around intentionally hacking and coughing on random old people, but it seems to be a talking point that keeps sticking around. I think we're reaching a dangerous point in this country where questioning the effectiveness of mask mandates and business closures must mean they're encouraging the genocide of the elderly. On some level, we are all responsible for our own health, and those who are in the compromised group should've been quarantined for their safety way back in March without shuttering all of society.

Although, I do agree that wearing a mask if you have a visible cold or a symptomatic virus is probably a good idea, although I still wouldn't mandate it.

@Kompys, what I meant by the peak was that April/May was when the death rate was at it's highest and when a few hospitals were overcrowded. I honestly don't care about the case numbers when drastically fewer and fewer people every month are being hospitalized over the virus. The hospitals haven't been overcrowded in months, which was the whole point of flattening the curve, which we've accomplished by now.

Also, for the people in this thread, when is the acceptable point that we can return to normalcy? Is it the vaccine, or is the goalpost going to change even after everyone is vaccinated?
