That's why I generally jam the first single to see whether the album is worth my time and go dark on future singles. It's easy to burn yourself out on singles by the time the album comes out.

i only listened to "kids" once or twice thankfully, "scorpion hill" is a great song but a really odd choice for a single.

I've found it makes listening to the album much more enjoyable. I have a hard time following said rule when it's one of my favorite bands, but even then I set a limit so that I don't get burnt out.

Album is great but easily their worst overall. That said, Scorpion Hill is probably song of the year.

oh no he had toenail clippings on the floor and a photo on the fridge, what an inspirational pity party..........people in mozambique live on trash mountain and dig through piles of aluminum and tinfoil to eat orange peels left in garbage bags. how uninspiring.

Love u blush. This is PUP’s “Going Grey” - more accessible and sugary but without sacrificing the quality. Hope you dig it

"oh no he had toenail clippings on the floor"
I think you missed the part about used needles on the floor? I feel like almost getting AIDS is worthy of a pity party, if that's the term we're going with

it's about heroin addiction, not a pity party in the slightest. the stained carpet, toenail clippings etc. are just a result of the guy's lifestyle. he'd probably have time to clean up his house if he wasn't always shooting up
but I don't think the song shames the guy's addiction in any way either. Makes it pretty clear that we're all human and anybody could end up in a similar situation under the right circumstances. it's pretty obvious to me the photo of the kid is there but the kid must live with his mom. one of the most heartbreaking and epic tracks in recent memory, don't think I can stress that enough lol
My intentions were good
I was just bursting apart like the end of the arc
Holding on to whatever I could

I mean, I appreciate the back story, but the song itself makes 0 allusions to heroin addiction

context is important, hence why that interview paints such a great picture of the inspiration for the lyrics but it's hard to say it's definitively about heroin addiction. I'd reckon it's moreso about the vibes he got from that experience rather than the experience itself

Song would be 10x heavier if he dropped the word 'heroin' or even 'dirty needles' or something. But yeah it's definitely more of an introspective track anyway, which is cool in it's own way
