not sure I've ever done such an emphatic 180o (between spin 1 and spin 2/3) as I appear to be doing here, now I'm questioning everything, and it is deeply disturbing

Ah, so this was your entry point in a sense then? That's cool.
Yeah, it is a lot to take in, 'excessive' is certainly a word I'd use. The vocals take some adjusting to for sure, but I like Melt-Banana, so erm... yes, maybe? Some of this is very (almost annoyingly) catchy and there are many interesting creative details which are yet to completely reveal themselves. Hopefully it'll become less overwhelming if given more time.

listened to this a few years ago and didn't feel it for whatever reason but revisiting it this week and tbh it's really quite good, a lot of different ideas and things going on but they all seem to work and every song is engaging

lol yes, last album (which isn't the debut btw) is v much two tracks of "i can do pop!!??" that immediately backpedals into wonderful zany scatty occasionally top-of-its-class indie folk shrapnel. this one is the real deal

*facepalm*
Yeah the first two songs on the previous were fine but felt more insecure than the rest fs, this sheds that entirely as far as I've heard
