Joliette is still reigning at the top of the mountain for me and nobody has really come close yet. Akasha and Ni are both up there somewhere as well, probably Illyria in there somewhere too. It's a very lose ranking so far haha, many nice things this year but only one that has truly taken me for a full-on spin.

I've only listened to a fraction of what you have, but Joliette is my only 4.5 so far. Head and shoulders above the rest. I am contemplating slapping on a few more high ratings though, there's a couple potentially in the pipeline.

There are many bands that could bring the goods, and even more that are currently 'unknown' in terms of whether or not they'll be releasing anything this year. Time will tell...

Love the love for this bunch of weirdos. They've earned it. They've made some great records before this too.

Do you like the Pikachu song?

@Mars: I'm getting all my 'exploration' out of the way before I get hit by a barrage of 'must hear' cuts from Sept. onward. I'll be dedicating so much time to a handful of releases, it's going to be difficult for new discoveries to get a look in.
@Trifo: anything like this one? Papa made it sound like a departure in sound, at least to an extent. Is this the most 'electonic-orientated' album of their discog?

The others are like it, I suggest you just go backwards if you really like this. "O" should definitely appeal to you.

Thanks, De Staat's back catalogue can go on next year's 'list' - I plan on abandoning new releases entirely in 2020.

Haha! Why? To catch up on older stuff? Or have you lost faith in the future altogether?

Oh and I love the Pika song Pika! They thank a bunch of lawyers in the linear notes and I guess it's about that song title and Nintendo...

Catch up. New releases are overly distracting. I've said it many times before, but as fun as being somewhat 'up-to-date' is I have a higher success rate when cherry picking from music's 'history', which is understandable as you have waaaaaaay more choice that way. There's so much I want to hear. I even considered abandoning everything by an artist I hadn't checked out before (in some capacity), so the only new material would be by artists I'd already discovered - that's maybe a little extreme, but I might do it for Jan-Mar, or something.

Funny Demon, I was planning on doing the same thing, as well as listening to my high ratings again

Yeah, I want to revisit a bunch of stuff, high ratings included, but also things I've given 3 or 3.5/5 to that are considered more notable.

Ah I understand that completely. Although trying new stuff is great for festivals too because acts with new releases tend to tour a lot. But I agree that older stuff is very rewarding and cherry picking is great with older stuff.

Gotta prepare that decade best of list. I personally can't live without the thrill of new releases, plus it's where most of the discussions take place.

That’s my issue, those active threads are simply too enticing. It’s hard not to buy into the hype, or at least be curious.
