remixing the original would've been the move but if they didn't have the tracks to work with, this is a welcome alternative. RYM blurbs are all like "wtf Stormblast is the LAST album that needed this treatment!" but realistically, the original is an inconsistent mess of badly-balanced/panned/mixed tracks that's irksome to sit through because of how close it was to being classic, with just better attention to detail. so fuck the purists on this one, I'm glad we got MMV.

Eh, I like both. The original has an atmosphere that's lost here but obviously the recording and playing is better here. I mean, how many black metal classics are actually recorded and mixed well lol

i kinda agree that stormblast og is a little annoying bc of how close it is to be being classic BUT this is not better

I mean the production was lovely, it's the inconsistency that annoys me (as I remember). having to change the volume between songs, weird mixing choices that -- you know when you're watching a movie and something happens that makes you suddenly aware of the edges of the screen, and you have to get back into it? it's like that.

I'm glad you get me. I should probs spin that after I finish MMV since I don't think I've ever compared them back-to-back. also, MMV was my first black metal album so I'm def biased. friend gave me a stack of CDs with this, In Sorte Diaboli, Nightside Eclipse, Blood Fire Death, and a couple Arch Enemy albums back in high school.

ha nice, i heard puritania off of a cky film in like 2002 and then downloaded a bunch of dimmu borgir tracks and fell in love with the ones from original stormblast so theres my own huge bias and similar intro to bm
