To me, this album is ā€œthe most metal album everā€ in the following sense: it finally killed metal.

Don’t get me wrong. This album was fantastic. And metal was a marvelous genre. But my generation of metal-heads, who were graduating high school and moving into college at the time this album was released, we had finally been presented with THE LIMIT. This is it. This is what can be done with metal.

What is metal? A genre of extremes. The birth and death of things. What is the most metal thing you can do within metal? End metal. And to my 18-year-old self, this album did that. It found the limits of metal and ended it.

While I’m sure I have many dissenters…. fuck you guys. With a large rubber phallic device. For I am correct. We nerds discovered metal, and ruined it, in the most metal way possible. We found the edge. We made Slayer et all ā€œkinda boring.ā€ Thank you, fellow nerds. Thank you, Dillinger Escape Plan.

The last half of 4th Grade Dropout is the best part of the album for me. It is so awesome. Destro's Secret is another underrated track here as it absolutely slays.
