Just listened to the album in full in the dark through my earphones, been dying to listen to it for ages ! MH's most ambitious album in a while, some killer tracks ! Gonna keep listening throughout the day to digest this album further, respect for pushing your limits yet again and not playing it safe

I both hate how ugly this album is yet kinda love it for how ballsy it's themes are. It's a strange love/hate relationship I have for it.

Reminder that this is the same band that made Burn my Eyes and Blackening.

Man....I really wanted go against the grain, to say "Hey the hate for this album is absolutely overblown" despite the fact I didn't liked any of the singles. I went through the whole thing but no. This is not good. It's bad. Reeeeeaaally bad.



Every bad habit and indulgence Machine Head had over the decades whether its the nu-metal stuff, the overblown pathos or Robb Flynn trying way too hard are not only present but cranked to 11. It's absurdly long, directionless and messy with almost none of the technical fury or the effective harmonies of the previous albums. There are some flares and sights of MH's traditional heavy hitting groovy riffs but for those you have to get through some if not the worst songwriting in the band's history.

Also I know this band were never about subtlety but the lyrics are unforgivably bad. I can't choose which is more cringe-inducing: the forced, self-righteous, childish "political" ones or the juvenile, edgy-as-bismuth crap on songs like "Triple Beam" or "Razorblade Smile".



Mid-life crisis in musical format. Also Robb take that shitty, pesudo-heartfelt folk-arena rock or whatever "Bastards" is and stick it in a place where the sun doesn't shines. Already one of the worst songs of the year.
