the album "coltrane's sound" is b-sides from these sessions and the version of "the night has a thousand eyes" on that album is a ripper

This is on during a snowy breakfast with strong black tea. Life can be good, even during the pandemic.

Trif, ya like (free) jazz?

Hmm. I did enjoy Ascension a lot, so as long as it's acoustic I do! Not too big on jazz featuring electric stuff.

Totally fair on that! Jazz just sings so much better with the resonance of acoustics, feel like blues music works the same way for diff reasons.
Ima jam this bad boy this week though, and coming with THOUGHTS and FEELINGS; and if you haven't had the chance Trif you should have a go at Dolphy's Out to Lunch! Catches me off guard how alive that record is every time think you'd dig it right up

"Jazz just sings so much better with the resonance of acoustics" 100%. Although sometimes electrical stuff can work too of course, there always are exceptions. Bitches Brew for instance is lo-ve-ly.
Thanks for the rec, will definitely check that one! Never even heard of it. I know this is ridiculous but those (entirely) blue covered albums are usually good, so that's promising. Haha!

Lol Blue Note Records sure knew how to cultivate that AeStHeTiC
God I gotta go back to Bitches Brew, heard it once hopped up on pain meds after a surgery and I remember NOTHING

Yeah it's no coincidence haha! Those notes be blue!
Also wow I just finished Ascension again and decided to go for Out To Lunch immediately after, and it seems to be some kind of cover album in a way? Really cool stuff though, with that xylophone (is it a xylophone?).

Oh so very close! That's Bobby Hutchison on the Vibraphone, and if you asked me to tell you the difference, I'd be well and truly stumped!
Adore how loose Out to Lunch is, like it feels so cohesive with this instinctive central pulse that all the players are keyed in to, that they can all run off and chase their whimsy at points and still find their way right back when they need to. "Be home in time for dinner" and ALL THAT JAZZ. Fucking devastating Dolphy died right after he made it, one of the most tragic what-could-have-been's

Ah yes, the sound is less 'plinky' and sharp when compared to a xylophone I guess. Lovely instrument either way!
This is super cool porc, love how clear everything is in the mix, and those bass clarinet and saxophone sounds are superb.
EDIT: YES NEW PAGE! +1 for Coltrane!

Triple dig comments! It's been an honor serving with you in the neglected jazz corners of Sput, Trif, I am away to bed and probably with more Coltrane chatter tomorrow cause jazz + reading/writing day = mmm mmm
