Why would you want it to be longer? Just listen to it again.
New Deathspell could've had more songs, but whatever. If it's going to be a long record it better not have filler.

30 minutes is the perfect length for this kinda thing

Wow, this is kind of great. This genre is weighed down by acts who take themselves too seriously. It's trite at this point to mention the overbearing technicality and monotony of songs. And while this band suffers from brief spurts of monotony (and some bass drum triggering that sounds comical), it's often way more groovy than the output of their peers.
Dude on vocals is also a high point often, especially when he uses his voice with machine-like precision...like part of the rhythm section. Very cool stuff.

"who take themselves too seriously"
Interesting to see this, as I've heard both sides: that bands don't take it seriously/take it too seriously. Honestly don't see something wrong with a tech death band doing either if they pull it off well enough.

Eh good point, and these guys *do* appear to take themselves seriously as well. I think I meant to say I'm not a fan of the bands who try to write 8 minute epics consisting of indistinguishable blastbeats and gutteral mumbling/banshee shrieking. This was refreshing because the songs are the perfect length and there's not a lot of them. Really concise, never wears out its welcome. Lyrics also never quite border on the pretentious cringe you often see with..."spacecore". I mean it's pretty out-there but I thought they were pretty cool, the ones I did read.
I mean I'll need to listen a couple more times, but I'm liking this a lot after a couple spins. I've never bobbed my head to tech. death before, save maybe a couple moments from Zenith Passage. This whole thing grooves really well.

I agree with that, but I do think it starts to wear down on me as the album drags on. I'm also not the biggest fan of the vocalist, I'm really surprised to be in them minority there

Vocals are a non-factor in tech death anyway, it's all about the instruments.

Oli adds an inextricable charm to their misic tho. I wouldnt say hes a non-factor by any degree

Vocals in general are always a factor just by virtue of being a part of the music to begin with. Their significance varies, sure, but they're never completely cut out of mind.

these guys are definitely fun in a live setting no doubt but this is such a chore to listen to and so lifeless tbh

it's in the top 3 of death this year for sure, certainly no chore especially since it's pretty short

I mean if you think dm in general is exhausting I get it. But I just cannot wrap my head around how someone who adores the likes of Artificial Brain and Defeated Sanity would find this album to be a chore. Not being judgemental here, I just genuinely don't get it lol

maybe 'chore' wasn't the right word but I find it surprisingly uninteresting. and it doesn't help that I don't like how the drums or vox sound either. I just feel like I've heard this all before from the band and elsewhere I'm sure I'm in the minority
oh and psalms goes so hard

I've heard way more exhausting modern tech death than this that's for sure. This is good.

It has so much replay value that in fact not even new black dahlia can take me away from this.
Not a single uninteresting moment on this record. I'm in love.
