I found Aether Realm a good replacement for wintersun since they've released a a poor record.

Give them a try and tell me that Wintersun's new album is worhwhile.

tbf i'm amazed i didn't pick up on that sarcasm either, seems obvious now. in saying that, there are wintersun fans out there who genuinely think like this, so.

All those bands use Gothenburg riffs, dm drumming, and dm vox = mdm. That's like saying Emperor are power metal because they use keys and clean vox.

Kinda late for that discussion but I must defend Maco097 a bit since both Wintersun's and Children of Bodom's earlier albums are pretty much 50% mdm and 50% power metal. Children of Bodom also had very strong neoclassical elements early on which I primarily associate with power metal. Finlands approach to mdm is just so strongly based in power metal.
I've heard bands that are strictly considered power metal that use harsh vocals and blast beats, like Pathfinder or even Dragonforce to some degree. I'd say that Wintersun sounds more like Dragonforce than Be'lakor or Insomnium. A lot more.

This discussion is stupid and redundant.

pretty much that in addition to the fact that the spectrum of subgenres is not one clear set of defined criteria where once you check some boxes BOOM it's power metal (or whatever else there may be)

Production on this isn't the best but I fail to see how it's "possibly the worst ever" when albums like Dingir and Agony exist

Or half of Nuclear Blast's recent output even

Dingir almost seem self-aware how shitty it is. In that albums case, the plastic and fabricated production kinda fits the futuristic and spacy theme. It's just another awful deathcore production but The Forest Seasons just has no right to sound this bad.

Thank you for recommending Aether Realm. Listening to their new album "Tarot" right now and I think it's amazing so far. I still love The Forest Seasons, but this shit is great as well.

Jari can suck a dick. He basically tricked all of those Kickstarter idiots into paying for his new studio in the hopes of an album that might never come out. And that was AFTER he ran off with the advance money his label had given him.

The fact that this album is dull as hell is the icing on the shit cake.
