i dont think he's saying hes in the majority i think he's implying that the majority is wrong.
as I said though I can see the similarities but Alt-J is much more indie pop and has a way different songwriting process

They're not that similar at all IMO. And Radiohead is better obviously.

i like the comparison mostly because it makes people scrutinize this band's songwriting. radiohead songs all have amazing internal logic; this band is quite iffy in regards to how the sonic elements come together

Listen to left hand free and tell me they are the next radiohead. I will slap the fuck right out of you

yes that song is literal garbage; what lucid said is spot on

left hand free is this band tryna be black keys, not at all indicative of their work.
personally, i kinda like the comparison because it works in ways that aren't just sonic - more of the approach to songwriting and tone than just how they sound. the way muse wanted to be like radiohead was more explicit and often ended up being rather superficial.

Radiohead songs all have amazing internal logic? That's about the most pretentious shit I've read all day. I love Radiohead but that statement is just lol

Just picturing you listening to alt j all like "hmmmmmm that piano melody wasn't very logical. Radiohead would have done it better." For as much as I adore Radiohead, their songs are sometimes way fucking out there, especially on kid a. So idk what you mean by "logical"
|
| |
something can be way out there and still logical (ie. well thought out, sensible). with radiohead the amazement is in how they make completely intuitive songs out of peculiar elements. i've never felt that sense of trust with alt-j, their songs are off-putting in how uncomfortably the parts slot together. opinions of course, but it's clear that other people also find their songwriting unconvincing.

It's not that you dislike them, I'm completely fine with that, it's that you use words like "trust" and "unconvincing"
|
| |
So you don't like that he actually has a reason for disliking them?
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
Because he doesn't trust them? Lol okay.
Also what's unconvincing? Pretty sure they're playing what they like, being genuine. I think he should stick to criticisms that make sense,.

dunno what's up with gyro's comprehension skills today

Oh come on that's a bs criticism and you and I both know it. You hate this band, plain and simple. Your criticisms to me when we spoke were far less nonsensical and much more blunt and hateful.
|
| |
To clarify what I mean by trust: I trust that Radiohead will take me on a journey with their songs because everything is in its right place. I don't feel that way with Alt-J.

Go listen to taro and tell me it doesn't slot together well lol

Taro is a great track as are most tracks on the debut. An Awesome Wave definitely took a lot from In Rainbows' approach to production and arrangement, but since then Alt-J seems to have really moved away from Radiohead altogether, whether by being more blues-oriented and fractured on their sophomore or by crafting simple, stripped-down jams out of a relative few elements while mostly sticking to verse-chorus songwriting here. Comparison doesn't seem to work as well anymore

this is good and i know subjectivity blah blah but maybe words like "masterpiece" should be used a bit more conservatively

This is the greatest piece of art ever created. Future generations will look back at this era and claim it is a cultural creative apex due to this album alone.
The vibrations that emanate from the opener actually galvanise a sixth sense to accelerate the individual to a higher state of conciousness.
It's a 4.
