nothing on this or Old Souls sounds as poppy as the new single

Agreed. I'd argue fools and worthless liars was more accessible than old souls, but neither were 'poppy' per se. This new track has so many stereotypical top 40 elements.

Still looking forward to the album for some reason. It's not that the single is bad, just a bit concerning in regards to the direction they might go.

Maybe it's because I saw them live and really love this band but after reading interviews and at least knowing this choice of style was an intentional decision and all, while still prefering their prior approach, I'm kinda getting the hang of the 3 singles so far. Hell is my favourite due its dark mood despite being poppy. I think for what it wants to be it's gonna be pretty great. Only thing really bothering me so far is that 2 out of 3 released songs so far use this stupid...don't know how to call them..."synth vocals/shouts" or whatever? You know that shit that every current Justin Bieber song also has in it. So annoying and overused in the mainstraim.

As expected the new album doesn't hold up to their past material, at least not on first listen. Apart from that it's still a nice listen, might write a review next week if nobody else didn't do so until then.

I just completely reversed my opinion of this. Incredible album.
New one sounds like Fall Out Boy at times.

randomly felt like listening to this for the first time in quite a while and goddamn it's hitting some kind of emosh/nostalgia spot, 'pretty low' is so so good
