In reply to people saying the misogyny doesn't matter cos everyone does it and he has always been like that -
I really enjoy his earlier stuff as a piece on the grossness of the culture specifically when it comes to misogyny - like Initiation is so disgusting it's almost difficult to listen to but it says something. It's pointing out how things are through a character (whether intentional or not I'm not sure and it doesn't really matter).
No he's more in the public spotlight the misogyny gets less daring, more washed in within the music without ever being a focal point.
I find that much harder to be okay with. It's now such a part of the scenery that you have to worry (in the same way you should worry about the misogyny in most popular music), because it can't be looked at as pointing out and exploring something such as culture-based attitudes to women.
It's just background misogynistic noise - I find that to be way more damaging to what people start to think of as normal.
Something so overt as the creepiness in his first mixtapes were much more difficult to let wash over you and start to feel normal.
