I thought the songs he did on SNL sucked. Probably won't check this one out.

Considering those two are some of the best songs off the record, It'd probably be best if you steered clear of this.

This won me over. Most of the tracks that I didn't think much of the first 2-3 listens are starting to grab me. Still not anything unbelievable, but a solidly enjoyable pop record with 2-3 smash hits; nothing to sneeze at.
I retract my early negativity.

24k, Chunky, and Too Good To Say Goodbye kept drawing me in and before I knew it those filler tracks weren't filler anymore.
Ariana still holds the crown for pop AOTY but this is nice

Guess I better check this out, 4.7 review incoming.

fair enough

"jac where u been bro"
Started a new job recently and I've been pretty flat out but I still make time for jams. Also that reminds me I gotta listen to the new Ariana but I'm apprehensive about that one :o

New Ariana was pretty sick, id suggest skipping all tracks with featured artists. Theyre the worst off the album.
Also Sowing, thoughts on Thats What I Like?

yeah I hear that - been there twice in the last five years and it's a time drainer. def check ariana, it's a notch above her usual fare and IMO the best mainstream pop release of 2016

Agreed about the songs with features, although def give it a fair listen either way the first time. Not sure about 'That's What I Like' - who's the artist?

oh shit whoops
yeah I do like that song quite a bit - that and versace were two of the main reasons I closed the gap from a 2.8 to a 3.5..first listen through they just didn't do much, now the melodies are really starting to separate from the others on the record.
am I the only one who gets a JT vibe on a lot of these (esp. That's What I Like)? like, a lot of their material feels like the other could perform it. i prefer timberlake personally but their approaches are quite similar.

Actually, one of the co-writers on The 20/20 Experience wrote on this too, so that might be why.

makes sense he'd have his hands in creations by both artists. both have great voices and sing a similar style of soul/funk/pop.

I actually have a review for this in the vault (idk if I'll post it or not) that mentions more parallels I've found between the two, specifically between this and 20/20.

I'd be interested in reading that, esp. now given what I know about the overlap.
