I mean dude of course bass sounds fine because it's fucking flea, but this guy has made us expect more from him than just 'fine', he shines on a couple of moments here but he's a bit stranded compared to his usual self. Not being over demanding or anything, just telling it like it is.

If the bass disappoints it's because of the songs/ songwriting on the album. This isn't early jump up power thrash funk RHCP, it's watered down. What exactly were you expecting? Bass in context of the album is fine, just not a lot of room for him to work with. More bass solo's? What?

Nitpicky. Lp is meandering and mellow, not a lot of flow to slap bass upon. The bass is the least of it's worries imo.

I even like some of the guitar work on this quite a bit in certain spots, it's the songs themselves I'm not really feeling.

and thus ends my commentary on the new rchp lp

ciao!

Nah I'm happy with them as they are right now, hopefully they'll play in my area later in the year/next year.

Agreed Tuna, that live version of Go Robot I posted is incredible. This is around 3.25 for me. Nothing amazing, but perfectly fine for where the band is now at this point. There's some great songs here.

I actually felt the same way the first few times until I gave a few more spins. AK's vocals have a lot to do with that tbh. The bass and piano parts in the middle of songs also play a part as the album/songs kinda loses all the momentum it had built up to that point.

never was the hugest fan of RHCP tho. love their albums up till Stadium Arcadium. kinda stopped caring about them. Goodbye Angels and Dark Necessities are decent tho

I always wonder why people have to pop up several times in an album discussion to say they don't like it. Aren't there albums out there you actually like you can be talking about instead?

So, according to you Rick Rubin is not a good producer...you lost me there man.
I guess you could have out-produced Rick Rubin on all the great albums he worked on...

Rick Rubin is infamous for his bad production. And I don't mean he makes bad albums I mean his production is actually bad sounding.

This Ticonderoga sounded pretty cool on the iTunes samples... haven't heard the whole album yet though.
