Dive In is really the only track on here holding up for me.
Probably gonna drop my rating soon.

Album Rating: 3.5
1. Dive In
2. Texas Is Forever
3. The Divine Zero
4. Floral & Fading
6. Circles
This is all I still listen to. Makes for a nice little ep. 3.5 is the appropriate album rating.

Dive In is actually the best song here.

Damn. It's only growing on me more. Upped to 4 from 3.5.
Unlike their previous stuff, I can listen to every track here.
Standouts are still Dive In, The Divine Zero, Floral & Fading, Phantom Power and Ludicrous Speed, and Circles. Then Song for Isabelle and Ribbon are two of the best songs I've think they've done.

After not really digging CWTS, I think this bumps front to back. Fav track probably is the closer or Texas is the reason. I can't really think of anything I dislike about it other than one or two of the br00tal breakdowns

Their "ballads" usually suck but luckily it had fuck all. This has a few which I'm not too hot on.

It's wack, idk why it doesn't click with me, but to me it just isn't fun like the other three records. What about it do people love so much? I like the Jacket song or whatever but the rest is mehhh

this album loses steam on the second half. the last two songs are pretty good though. don't like circles at all.

Bedless is so great though. today I saw the whole world is definitely the weakest track for me rn, and gold metal ribbon is forgettable but it jams when i listen to it lol

First five tracks are like bam bam bam they hit so hard. Circles is fun too, that prechorus is GOLD

The bridge is kind of lame but good song

i dont get the narrative of collide being better than selfish machines, at the least they're on the same tier

Collide is better in every way for me; better songwriting, fantastic production (this being one of the major key factors), vocals slightly improved, more consistent, and better instrumentation (less technicality for the sake of being technical and more for the sake of improving the flow of the song / album)
|
| |
the lyrics on selfish machines are so much better like so many powerful one liners and the vocals are way more cathartic and the delivery is way more powerful. like there's nothing as emotive as stay away from my friends, the boy who could fly, or i don't care if you're contagious. i dont hear the difference in production, maybe because i've always listened to the reissue they have on spotify but either way it's not a major takeaway imo. also dont get how technicality is a flaw. album had some awesome riffs and none of them took away from the songs

Selfish Machines is their best album imo. Collide has better highlights, but the second half really drags. The only song on Machines that I don't really like is the one with autotune (The Painter, or something)
