This might seem strange, but I think Lost Keys is probably my fav. song of this album next to Rosetta Stoned. Not because of the other songs being bad, the song is just awesome.

Yeah Lost Keys is pretty good, but the voice acting doesn't sound genuine at all, unfortunately >

Great Review. I'm one of these Tool lovers, but it was nice to see a more objective viewpoint.

Wings (both parts) is so amazing, I couldn't get into them at first, but when I really realized the context they were written in and what not, it totally just changed my view of the songs, and the album.

I disagree on your assessment of Lost Keys, since I think it's a perfect lead-in to Rosetta Stoned (which I also enjoyed)... I'm not really sure what the purpose was for Lipan Conjuring though. It's cool on its own but normally it disrupts the album's flow.

Did anyone ever figure out a reason for Viginti Tres?

Supposedly if you play Wings 2, with Wings 1 followed immediately by Viginti Tres on a seperate speaker, it all fits together and sounds amazing. A friend of mine tried it and says it works. Its referred to as "Wings 3".

After I read the Downward Spiral review, I had the biggest man crush on you. But you had to step all over Tool. But you are the first person i've heard who has a legitimate argument against Tool. This isn't their best by far, but its still better than most of the junk coming out today. The only thing wrong with this album is that they have seemed to settle on one sound. Its not as groundbreaking as the previous albums. But I still believe it deserves higher than a 2. Therefore if you don't change the rating, I will have no choice but to challenge you to a duel.

Have to disagree with parts of the review, 10,000 days is a tough one.... its not a classic like Aniema or does it flow as well nor is it as immediate as Laterlus. If I could compare to an album it would Radiohead's Kid A....

Vicarious has a nice build some interesting parts feels a bit like Aniema, The pot certainly a highlight, Jambi on first listen did not impress me much but listen to the way it flows into Wings for Maire....

As for "waiting for the explosion into life" thats the point, Tool are playing against expectations the sound is about the journey, its subtle and quiet tender, the builds are small.....

Its quiet a mind blowing song once you give it a chance.

"Lost keys" and "Rosetta Stoned" should be placed after right in two imo.... In the same way that Third eye climaxes Aniema. But again the band are playing with expectations...

Problems with the album, it feels short on stand out songs it seems to dip after the first 5 songs, but to me it feels like an LP with two sides, its not meant to taken in a full sitting. This I only realised after 4 months of listening to the album

I agree with "Right In Two" been a highlight but had to defend Wings for Marie.

Adam and Justin shine on this album. Maynard and Danny still do some great work but this is definitely an album for people who love great groove and superb riffs.

I find the second half dull. Wings Part 2 is good.

Vicarious, The Pot, Rosetta Stoned and Right In Two are my faves. The rest are a bit hit and miss. Quite a lot of filler material.

pretty meh review. But it's probably just because I could never agree with any justification of 2/5 for this CD. Oh, and you said APC was mediocre
