as for being acceptable what i meant is that albums like dookie and black parade were actually topical for the current trends when they came out. that was defining music of a generation. saying making an album like that in 2016 can have the same weight or relevance is flat out silly. this is entirely different generation, and i can 100% guarantee you the albums todays pre-teens revere from their youth down the road will not be some generic indie alt pop thats barely even making a splash.
itll probably be drake or some shit

"This is like the folk-pop/radio-whatever-the-fuck-you-wanna-call-it version of some grandiose, parade-worthy bullshit concept album. It's no better or worse in its pretense, and the way the whole thing is one huge pop album disguised as [insert genre] is basically the same thing. I was just discussing the approach. "
okay, i can see what you are getting at and will concede on the grounds of this being a matter of opinion

I see it being To Pump a Butterfly
And no concession necessary on your part, we were just looking at different sides of things. I actually agree with everything you said about impact/popularity and this generation embracing something totally different

"I see it being To Pump a Butterfly"
you think? i almost feel that that fills a bit of a different niche. i could see TPAB losing its significance pretty quickly as our culture develops and our social concerns alter

maybe just a little too political to be 'coming of age' worthy material

Perhaps...I picked that because I feel like it has the social-political relevance that AI did. Or, almost.

tbh I don't feel that we're gonna get a band that's gonna get as big as GD or MCR did. The music business isn't what it used to be, man.

there arent many bands really doing what either of those bands did, either. You have your radio rock bands and what not, but none of them produce music at the same over the top level that GD and MCR did.

also I agree with Toad that the population majority will probably remember Good Kid more than Butterfly.

I know personally I don't think TPAB holds a candle to Good Kid

so weird to think of what albums will be heralded as definitive 2010's classics in a few decades
its so obvious with music from the 50's to the end of the 90's and now its just kind of a shmorgishborg

Hey Potsy if you want to make a definitive list of sorts for that, or employ userbase votes, that's the kind of thing I'd love to give blog exposure. My name would be as the poster but I'd give full credit to the parties involved.
|
| |
that sounds like quite the undertaking but could actually be pretty cool yeah ill think about it and get at you. it would maybe be cool if we started it as a user vote in a list and go from there, make a blog feature for the albums that get the most votes and get write ups for each from users for why they think they will be seen as definitive works
