its really hard to recommend a good place to start with them tbh. with lots of bands it makes sense to go chronologically or to work backwards depending on what the person is looking for but i dont think it really makes sense with AnCo. Honestly I think you should Start with 'Feels' and from there go forward if you want to hear them gradually streamline the electronic elements and harness their psychedelia into something more digestible or go backwards and listen to the albums before it if you'd rather hear them at their more raw and almost folky (and ultimately best imo) side of things

I usually just go chronologically. I like to see where a band starts and where they end up.

fair enough, it would be so weird to hear spirit and danse as your first two animal collective albums tho i cant even imagine lol

That's the best way to go usually, Spirits might threw you off at first tho, atleast that's how i felt at first.

i dont know about that. sometimes it is. but really lets not pretend Pain of Mind is a good starting point for Neurosis for instance

or that you need to check out Pablo Honey before you skip to radioheads good albums that have nothing in common with their early work

chronological discog surfing can turn you off of some artists before you even find their good stuff

well spirit will indeed be a challenging first AnCo album

and then danse is up next which is pretty much universally regarded as their shittiest album but its not actually as bad as people say it is.

oh yea i usually just skip band's first albums if they're poorly rated and considered to be average/bad albums and just jump on the first that's highly rated and maybe back to them after i've heard their acclaimed albums, but for AnCo Spirit's is one of their best and unique even for them.
