I have many things to say about this, first off good review but I disagree with you in a couple of things.

First of all, Adam Jones is the biggest genius behind the whole Tool scene. He's the reason there even IS a Tool; and it doesn't matter if he can't play like Petrucci since when does being the fastest make you the best? Jones has soul, which isn't something you can really get from Petrucci's work.

Second, to answer the questions you all have:

- H. is written to Maynard's son, because of what his dad put him through he wrote this for his son. They have never performed it live.

- Die Eir Von Satan does mean the Balls of Satan. It's a cookie recipe (as someone said earlier) and it requires no eggs. If you listen to it you can hear one line being repeated many times, "und Keine Eier" which means "and no eggs."

You definitely aren't understanding the wonder that is H. just pay more attention to it. Hooker with a Penis is probably their most underrated song. Should've reviewed the fillers because it's part of the whole message they're trying to send, Tool isn't an ordinary band. If you don't like the fillers, then you don't do drugs. Fuck the worst three, there's no such thing; I have every song rated as 5 stars. Top 3 are Aenema, Third Eye, 46 & 2

They've played H. live. I have a bootleg of a show in Houston on December 12, 1996. Very good live version...

How can you correlate doing drugs and liking filler. It's pointless and inane, and fanboys such as yourself are just trying to validate pointless songs with even more inane logic. Quit while you're ahead. This music isn't some gateway to a higher understanding or plane of being, and you shouldn't feel superior because of listening to it.

It's music. Listen to it.

The only filler I like is Intermission because it leads into Jimmy so well.

Plus, its actually enjoyable.

I would have given it a 5, especially back when I was 16 or 17, but now it gets just a few points off for Maynards pretentiousness. Wile some of the anger is justified and in the end even fun, he occationally mutters a line or two that look like they belong in a highschool geeks(yes that was me) journal. I'm not saying its bad, honestly this album rocks I'm just saying maynard can be a bit much.

and yes Die Eir Von Satan is a recipe

Syncratic, I know you think the fillers are pointless (considering they arent a song), but I dont think they are. I think they add a mood to the album. While some are pointless, like message to hairy manback, I think that Die Eir Von Satan and intermission fit very well and overall help the album.

I can just listen to this album all the time now. All it takes is one live show and the love for Tool hits the stratosphere. It's amazing how all the songs (well except Hooker with a Penis and the filler) just seem to cycle around for best song on the album though depending on your mood.

You'll have a hard time if you listen to Lateralus. Try Aenima, Undertow, or 10000 Days. Leave Lateralus on the shelf.

Then try.

Actually from what I've heard I liked Lateralus the most. I listened to Schism, Lateralus,
and The Grudge and liked all three of them. Off here I liked Aenima and Pushit but did
not like Forty Six And 2 nor Eulogy. I liked Sober and Wings Of Marie/ 10,000 Days,
dislike The Pot and Vicarious. What should I do?This Message Edited On 08.18.07

@Robin: Well, if you like the songs you mentioned, i can't see why it should that hard to like the others, y'know, some songs requires a few more listens than others. I will stop preaching and say, if you dislike Forty Six & 2 (probably thé Tool song) or Eulogy then there's maybe no hope for you.

But on the other hand, if you like a good portion of Lateralus it is certainly a good place to start.

btw i think tribestros was pointing at me, because i know his unfortunate feel on the album very well ;)
