I actually liked what they did to his voice, and I usually don't like tampering. I can definitely see why you wouldn't.

they were good in Dimmu when they were used only on occasion to spice things up spontaneously, but over-using them makes the music quite bothersome.

Normally that sort of almost theatrical vocal delivery bothers the hell out of me in modern prog metal, but it really works here surprisingly.

This is great, Bogren's production is amazing as always and the music is great! Are there anymore bands like these (I already know Enslaved)

In the middle of listening to this (on "Pandora"), mostly because I want to listen to as many metal albums this year as possible, and that album art owns. Only other thing I've heard by these guys was Quintessence, which was enjoyable but didn't stick with me. Emperor is the only black metal band I ever got into, but since I enjoy clean vocals, I figure what the heck.
So far it's fairly enjoyable. I never thought progressive and black metal would be combined, especially in this manner. Surprisingly accessible. "When Chaos Calls" is the track I'm on, and so far it's probably my favorite.
Great, clean review too!

Check the first Ulver album bro

Going to finally listen to this today. An I personally think the album art is pretty weak, like Megadeth level bad.

Decent stuff, but kind of forgettable compared to the other Borknagar albums I've spun. Unsurprisingly, Garm was probably the best thing about this.

This is moreso Borknagar just being Borknagar. It's better than Universal but not as good as Urd imo.

So is this their last album then? Can't remember where exactly, but I swear I remember hearing as much as part of a band statement.

Really? Damn. I don't recall seeing that. That said if they disband I'm certain it has to do with Vintersorgs head injury.
