On a serious note though I need to give this record more of a chance, I always cast it aside since besides Pure Holocaust I never saw Immortal as essential.

This is probably Immortal at their most extreme. I've always viewed this album as up par with its norwegian brothers Transilvanian Hunger and Hvis Lysett Tar Oss, which all came out the very same year. This is arguably less artistic in vision, but that also separates it from the the rest in a good way.
